Hello! I'm karla aron

I conduct a boutique-style piano teaching studio out of my home in Southwest Lawrence, Kansas. That means that for now I am only taking about 8 students. 

I love getting to teach piano. Here's why. 

Music is something that you can enjoy by yourself, and that's a truly lovely thing, but it is even more fulfilling when it is shared with another musician(s). Teaching allows me to share with my students a special language and art form like no other. 

Is your child gravitating toward the piano? Do they love to sing or hum?

My approach to teaching piano is highly nurturative and fun. I love helping students recognize and cultivate their musical superpowers. These are their gifts and preferences that make them unique.

I love getting to know my students. I tailor the lesson to their individual learning style and their tastes. We explore all kinds of music. And when we find a piece of music that lights them up, that piece that they play over and over again, that is one of the most rewarding moments of my work as a teacher.

I teach on a Yamaha grand piano in the living room of our home in Lawrence, Kansas. Students of all ages have commented on its big rich sound. We are close to shopping, so it's easy to drop your child off and run a quick errand if you like, or feel free to wait. Note that we have two sweet studio tabbies that drop in from time to time to see how the lesson is going!

Lesson Rates & Policies

35 minute private lesson $35. (Recommended for beginner to intermediate students.)

Payable on the first of the month for the number of lessons in that month.

I teach lessons in tandem with the public school calendar. If we've decided that lessons are a good fit, I ask that you plan and commit to continue the lessons for the semester. 

I use an automated invoice system that makes it easy to pay through an email that is sent, or through the payment portal on my website. 

Payment is due at the first of the month for the number of lessons in that month, typically 4 or 5 lessons.

Missed lessons are rescheduled when possible.
If not, a credit of $35 will be applied to your account.

Please keep your child home when they are not well, have a cold, etc. A virtual lesson is an option if they are feeling up to it.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you cannot make the lesson.

I'm teaching piano lessons in Lawrence, Kansas! 

A bit of backstory…

I am a huge fan of Lawrence, Kansas. It's the where I moved when I left my home state of Arkansas. I was awarded a graduate teaching assistantship in piano at the University of Kansas, and that's where my love of this place started. I wanted to stay in Lawrence forever, but jobs and fate took me even farther west for many years. 

But several years ago, my husband and I fell in love with Kansas City and so we moved there after years of living in Colorado. As much as I loved (and still love) Kansas City, I felt myself just melt into a gooey state of relaxation when I'd visit Lawrence. I loved the people and the feel of the terrain and landscape. 

Lawrence sits just about smack dab in the middle of the U.S. It's got rolling hills, turn of the century houses in the downtown area, and bright blue skies with super white clouds in all kinds of shapes. I could go on and on.

So, when we stumbled onto a house in Lawrence that we loved, we jumped on it. Of course, our timing was crazy because we closed on the house the day the country went into lockdown due to the pandemic of 2020. 

It's 2024 now, and I couldn't be happier about our decision. 

I taught piano for many years when we were out west, always keeping what I call a very curated, “boutique-style studio”. I hadn't taught for several years, and not since moving to Kansas City and ultimately Lawrence. But I was considering it. 

When August 2023 rolled around, my husband received a text from one of his colleagues. 

"Would your wife be interested in teaching piano to two of our kids?" 

I immediately said, “Yes!”.

We poured our hearts into it, and it was so much fun building a teacher/student rapport over the next 10 months. They ultimately moved out of state, but it showed me how much I love working with piano students.

So, my announcement is that I am opening a boutique piano lessons studio in Lawrence, Kansas! I have openings for lessons starting just after New Year's in January 2025. 

I teach ages 6 and up

If your child is showing interest in the piano, or interest in singing or music in general, that's a very good sign that lessons would be appropriate!
